Monthly outing to the Johnnie claim and General Meeting
The next outing to the claim in Johnnie is scheduled for September 8, 2018.  New members and other interested members can meet at the Burger King on Rt. 160 at 7:00 a.m. and caravan to the claim.  There will be no NGS sponsored outings to the claim in June, July, and August.  But you can go there on your own, if you want (see the note below under Special Announcements).

The next general meeting is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 19, 2018 in the Pahrump Valley Museum, 401 E. Basin Ave.  The program for this meeting was to be a talk by DeAnna Costen, President of the Las Vegas Chapter of Gold Prospectors of America (GPAA), but she had to cancel at the last minute.

There will be no General Meetings in June , July, and August.  The next General meeting will be on September 15, 2018.

NGS members can go to the Johnnie claim whenever they would like.  But it is recommended that at least one other member goes along to the claim in case of an emergency.  Always carry plenty of water and be aware that snakes might be present in the area.  A list of items suggested to take with you to the claim is available HERE.  Also, please make sure to hang your membership placard on your rear view mirror and keep your membership ID card with you.

Poker chips, with a gold nugget attached to each, are available for purchase at Nye Gold Seekers general meetings and events.  The poker chip can be used to check the effectiveness of a metal detector in picking up gold.  The price of the poker chip is $10.00 for members and $12.00 for non-members.  Choose between one with a hole for use with a lanyard or one without a hole.

Prospecting equipment owned by Nye Gold Seekers is available for members to borrow for a maximum of 2 weeks at a time.

Members who are interested in borrowing equipment can call Monty Duarte at 925-783-1565 for details.  Contact Monty at least 4 days before needing to use the rock crusher.  He will reserve it and prepare it for use at his house.  There is a 4 bucket limit per reservation.  Please note that the borrower is responsible to return borrowed items in the same condition as received.  Damaged or lost items must be replaced at the borrower's expense.  Damaged items may be repaired (with approval from Monty) at the borrower's expense.

Membership Forms

A link for new and renewal membership forms is available on the menu bar at the top of the page.  The membership fee for new members is $36.00 (pro-rated by month joining) plus a one-time processing fee of $10.00.  Membership renewal fees are $36.00 per year payable in January of each year.  Members who renew their membership 12 months or more after their membership expiration date must also pay a $10.00 processing fee in addition to the $36.00 annual membership fee.

New member packets and membership cards are available for pick up at each general meeting of Nye Gold Seekers.

 If you're just learning about gold prospecting, or even if you are experienced and want to learn more, there is an e-book available for purchase on Amazon.com entitled, "The Essential Introduction for New Gold Prospectors - 2nd  Edition" by Tim Rapp.  The cost is only $9.99 and it is worth every penny. The e-book can be downloaded to a desktop computer or a portable device (laptop, tablet, smart phone) for use anywhere.
