Gold is where you find it!
Monthly outing to the Johnnie claim and General Meeting

The next outing to the claim in Johnnie will be on November 11, 2017.  There will be no outing to the claim on October 14th as it conflicts with 2nd Annual Gold, Gem & Mineral Show that weekend.

The next general meeting is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 21, 2017 in the Pahrump Valley Museum, 401 E. Basin Ave.  The program for this meeting will be demonstrations of equipment similar to that shown in the September general meeting slideshow.

Special announcements

Volunteers are needed in 2017 to serve as Outings Director.  Terry Bush has resigned as Membership Director and Events Director due to relocation.

The Pahrump Valley Rockhounds and Nye Gold Seekers co-sponsored a successful
Pahrump Gold, Gem and Mineral Show (PGGMS) on October 14th - 16th, 2016 at Petrack Park.  As a result, both groups voted to co-sponsor the Second Annual PGGMS scheduled for October 13 - 15, 2017.
The show hours are Friday 10-6, Saturday 10-6, and Sunday 10-4.

Volunteers are needed to man the booth, set up Thursday 12 noon, and take down Sunday at 4.
Please support your club by setting aside a few hours that week end.

Contact Bonnie Johnson at [email protected] to be added to the schedule.

NGS members can go to the Johnnie claim whenever they would like.  But it is recommended that at least one other member goes along to the claim in case of an emergency.  Always carry plenty of water and be aware that snakes might be present in the area.  A list of items suggested to take with you to the claim is available HERE.  Also, please make sure to hang your membership placard on your rear view mirror and keep your membership ID card with you.

Poker chips, with a gold nugget attached to each, are available for purchase at Nye Gold Seekers general meetings and events.  The poker chip can be used to check the effectiveness of a metal detector in picking up gold.  The price of the poker chip is $10.00 for members and $12.00 for non-members.  Choose between one with a hole for a lanyard or one without a hole.

Members who are interested in borrowing equipment can call Monty Duarte at 925-783-1565 for details.  Contact Monty at least 4 days before needing to use the rock crusher.  He will reserve it and prepare it for use at his house.  There is a 4 bucket limit per reservation.  Please note that the borrower is responsible to return borrowed items in the same condition as received.  Damaged or lost items must be replaced at the borrower's expense.  Damaged items may be repaired (with approval from Monty) at the borrower's expense.
